Magic Lantern film club
The big idea:
you enjoy a magical evening of film, friends and wonder.
You meet our guide and they take you to a unique location in Bristol and we show a film. All the money we make we pass to Awamu, supporting women and children affected by HIV in Uganda.

Hello from Uganda!

Kerry, music and drama teachers and some of the kids that Magic Lantern and Awamu supports to go to school in Uganda

Hello! or Oli Otya as they say here! This photo was from my first week here when I sneaked in on a drama and dance session that the kids in Makerere slums were involved in. This is one of the two groups which Awamu supports and all the money from Magic Lantern goes to paying for kids like these to go to school.  It currently cost £66.67 for a year of school fees inc. text books and pens which is well out of the means of many parents in slums who live on less than 50p a day.

Emma from Awamu has been in Kampala for the last month and we’ve been setting up the urban gardening project!  Check out our video diary to see me shoveling mud and find out what veggies Jon is going to plant!

We regularily blog on www.awamu.co.uk/blog

I’m hoping to organise from a far a Magic Lantern in Bristol next year and do some al-fresco screenings in Kampala when i know the city better – maybe if Joey and Michelle come to visit we can get the old team together for a special screening 🙂
